‘Polar Vortex’ hits Chicago in July

With mild temperatures so far this summer in Chicago, it’s hard to remember the images of ice and freezing cold that we endured over one of the roughest winters in history.

Those memories may come flooding back with cool temperatures set to hit the Chicagoland area in mid July.

While temperatures in the 40s and 50s are nothing close to the negative temperatures we experienced during the Polar Vortex in the winter, these may make recording breaking cool temperatures for July, when the heat is usually at its peak.

So bring a light jacket and enjoy these bizarrely cool July temperatures!
