1. A man was fatally shot on the West Side on Friday afternoon, according to fire officials and Chicago police.

At 1:19 p.m., an ambulance was sent to the first block of North Hamlin Blvd in the city’s West Garfield Park neighborhood for a person shot, according to Chicago Fire Cmdr. Walter Schroeder.

A 36-year-old man was inside a vehicle when someone fired shots and hit him in the right side of the chest, said Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the Chicago police.

The person shot was inside a vehicle, possibly a blue pickup truck, when he was severely injured, said Schroeder, who earlier said the victim was a 17 or younger. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced dead.

He was identified as Hommy Vega of the 1300 block of West Chicago Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

2. At about 10:45 p.m., a 14-year-old boy was shot in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, said Chicago police spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.

He was on the sidewalk in the 1400 block of North Washtenaw Avenue when he was shot in the ankle, Alfaro said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital and his condition was stabilized.

3. At 8:55 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was fatally shot in the Little Village neighborhood, Alfaro said. He was found in a van in the 2700 block of West 24th Street with a gunshot wound to the chest. He went to Mount Sinai Hospital and was pronounced dead.

The victim was identified as Carlos Romo, who lived on the block where he was shot, according to the medical examiner’s office.

4. A 47-year-old man was wounded in a shooting around 3:30 a.m. Monday in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.

The man was shot in the eye in the 7500 block of South South Shore Drive, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.

5. At 6:30 p.m. a 23-year-old man was shot on the 1300 block of North Mayfield Avenue in the Austin neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a police spokesman.

The man was shot in the leg and managed to get himself to West Suburban Hospital where his condition has stabilized, Sweeney said.

The man is a gang member and was not cooperating with police, officials said.

6. A 24-year-old man was seriously hurt after he was shot around 1 a.m. Wednesday in the University Village neighborhood, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The man was walking in the 1100 block of West Taylor Street when someone in a passing gray sedan fired shots at him, Gaines said.

The man was hit in the arm, abdomen and back. He was taken in serious condition to Stroger Hospital, Gaines said.
