Gov. Quinn signed a measure Tuesday to allow the state of Illinois to borrow $1 billion for a statewide construction project.

The six-year highway improvement plan, consisting of nearly 200 projects, will provide maintenance to 1,845 miles of highways and 384 bridges. Some of the notable highways affected are I-55, Lake Shore Drive, Golf Road and Kirchoff Road. Residents can view the full list at http://www.dot.il.gov/opp/2014%20Capital%20Bill%20Projects%20By%20IDOT%20District.pdf. Projects will mainly focus on resurfacing and bridge repair.

The budget for Illinois’ latest highway improvement plan is set at $8.6 billion. Construction will begin in 2015.
